Solanum lycopersicum. 50-60 days. Also known as the House Tomato and Russian House Tomato. We acquired this interesting heirloom dwarf tomato from friends in Canada. This is one of the cutest tomatoes we have ever seen and is an excellent choice as a houseplant or patio-apartment balcony tomato! Small but prolific plants reach around 12-24" and produce average sized cherry tomatoes in pots but slightly larger fruits when in the ground. Small slicer, with tasty bright red fruits in clusters among thick, blue-green foliage. This rarity originated from Curtis Androsoff who has 2, 12 year old plants of the variety he cuts down for new growth each season and overwinters in his house. New growth is what produces fruit. The first seeds of this tomato came to Canada in 1893 with Curtis's grandmother from Tbilisi (then part of Russia but now is part of the independent country of Georgia. a.k.a. Republic of Georgia)on an old sail ship where she settled in Saskatchewan, Canada. ~30 seeds per packet.
